Christie Lake Bunkie

Tay Valley, Ontario

This timber frame bunkie in Tay Valley, Ontario was designed as a cozy, winter‑ready retreat at the lake. The concept centres on creating a compact, durable structure that can be comfortably used year‑round, especially during the colder months.

The frame will be cut off‑site by Hemlock Ridge Timber Frames and assembled on the property using traditional joinery, preserving the craft and character of timber construction. High‑efficiency, airtight SIPs will enclose the frame, creating a snug interior that is easy to heat and maintain. Electric heating and hot water allow the owners to warm the bunkie remotely, ensuring the space is comfortable before they even arrive at the lake.

The result is a small, efficient building shaped by practical detailing, traditional craftsmanship and the desire for a warm, welcoming place to stay through the winter season.
